Losing the keys to your motorcycle can be a frustrating experience. However, it’s a common issue that can be resolved with some know-how. In this guide, Terry from Mr. Locksmith Automotive shares insights on how to make new keys for your Honda CBR600 motorcycle when the original keys are lost.

Motorcycle Key Codes Richmond BC

One option for making a new key is to find the code on the ignition. However, sometimes the code doesn’t reveal itself. In such cases, you’ll need to understand the specifics of the ignition system, which, in this case, is what Terry refers to as an “8 cut”. This means the ignition has cuts numbered 1 through 8.

Making a Key for the Gas Cap Richmond BC

The ignition’s number 1 cut is consistently the number 1 depth. To proceed, you may need to make a key for the gas cap, which involves dealing with cuts numbered four through eight. This process might require you to dismantle the gas cap, which is relatively straightforward. Using a useful tool like Instacode helps in progressing through the cuts, especially for numbers two and three.

Challenges with the Rear Seat Lock Richmond BC

The rear seat lock of the motorcycle poses a bit more of a challenge. It involves cuts from two to six and includes a tricky roller pin, making it cumbersome to dismantle and make a key for.

Reading the Motorcycle Key Depths Richmond BC

When crafting a new key, recognizing the depth of cuts is crucial. Terry mentions that the number two depth is always silver, while numbers one and three are bronze. For those who have sharp vision or a good scope, identifying these depths might be simpler. However, even for those whose eyesight is less keen, it’s still achievable with the right tools.

Conclusion

Losing your motorcycle keys is not the end of the world. With the right approach and tools, you can have a new key made. If you ever find yourself in such a predicament, don’t hesitate to reach out to professionals like Terry at Mr. Locksmith Automotive for assistance.

Hi, I’m Terry from Mr. Locksmith Automotive. Today we’re making keys to a Honda CBR 600. They’ve lost their keys to their motorcycle, so we’re going to make a key for it. Sometimes there’s a code on the ignition. Today the code’s not coming up as anything. The ignition is, we call it an 8 cut. The ignition has cuts 1 to 8.

The number 1 cut is always the number 1 depth. The gas cap has four to eight, so you just have to make pull it apart. Very easy to pick open, make a key to this and just progress two and three using Instacode. You can figure it out. The rear seat lock has two to six. However, it’s really difficult. It’s got a little roller pin in the back, so it’s a pain in the butt to pull it apart and make a key for it.

So the best bit is if you have to pull apart the gas cap, make a key for it. You can read it if you’ve got good eyes with the scope. The number two depth is always a silver. One in three is bronze, but sometimes it’s a little bit to tell the difference on, you know, the depth. You can tell if you’ve got a good scope.

My eyes aren’t so good, so, uh, not that great on it. So again, if you’ve lost the keys to your motorcycle, give us a call at Mr. Locksmith Automotive.
